Share your skills, gain new ones

There are many ways you can kick-start your adventure, as a young person, parent or adult volunteer. Our volunteers get involved on their terms and not all roles involve working with young people. If you can give a little time (or a lot) to help improve young lives in our community, we’d love to hear from you.

Parents

Want your child to experience the fun, friendship and adventure of Scouting? You’re not alone. As well as the chance to take part in a range of exciting activities, scouts learn other skills as well. A recent study showed that 87% of young people said that Scouting helped them to contribute to their communities as active citizens.

Young People

Ready to begin your adventure? There are five sections you can join, depending on your age. The activities and opportunities vary but what is the same is that each will empower you to make friends, learn skills and try new things.

Adult Volunteers

Week by week, our scout leaders (aka scouters) empower young people to learn new skills, make new friends and stand on their own two feet. They’re our everyday heroes. They shape young people’s lives for the better, and find out a whole lot about themselves in the process, too.

We’re more relevant and more needed than ever, but it’s not always easy to keep up with the demand.

Happy Douglas & St. Fin Barre’s Scouters!

That’s where you come in.

You don’t need to be a Bear Grylls or Reinhold Messner to join us – none of us are! All essential training is provided, we learn from each other and have great fun while doing so. Optionally you can push it further: first aid, hillwalking, backwoods aka bush craft, …

Our idea of a night out: poor visibility navigation training

Safe and sound – how we keep your child safe in Scouting

Our group is committed to ensuring that Scouting is both enjoyable and safe for everyone who takes part. All our scouters are regularly garda-vetted and undertake safeguarding training every 3 years. Information for parents in respect of this and other useful items can be found at https://www.scouts.ie/safety/safeguarding and https://www.scouts.ie/safety/safety-at-scouting-ireland.
