It will involve six days of hiking the Toubkal circuit in the Atlas mountains. The trek will lead us over high mountain passes to the Toubkal basecamp at 3200m. From there exists the opportunity to climb North Africa highest mountain Jbel Toubkal at 4167m.<br>A <strong>very good fitness will be required<\/strong>! Participants must be realistic about their <strong>fitness, stamina and ability to walk at altitude<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained It is an Islamic country and attention needs to be paid to local customs. However, beer will be available in some hotels in Marrakesh.<br><br>In 2018 two backpackers were murdered near Imlil and the Moroccan government increased security dramatically in response. There is now a police station at the beginning of the trail up to the refuge and another police station near the refuge (though this station might not be manned in winter).<br><br>There is <strong>no mountain rescue service<\/strong> in Morocco. It is possible that a military helicopter can pick you up at the refuge but it will take a couple of days before the necessary flight permit is issued. It is more likely that you will be brought down to Imlil on a mule and then by ambulance to Marrakesh. As the trek will provide a very good acclimatisation with its climb high &#8211; sleep low pattern the risk is quite low.<br>Most important: should you feel unwell &#8211; tell the expedition medic straight away! The main symptoms of altitude sickness include headache, loss of appetite, feeling or being sick, feeling tired or exhausted, dizziness and difficulty sleeping.<br>The summit of Jbel Toubkal is at 4,167 meters &#8211; oxygen levels drop by roughly 40% compared to sea level at this height.
